DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS - DRL
A daytime running lamp (DRL, also daylight running lamp or daytime running light) is an automotive lighting device on the front of a roadgoing motor vehicle, installed in pairs, automatically switched on when the vehicle is moving forward, emitting white light to increase the conspicuity of the vehicle during daylight conditions.
European Union Directive 2008/89/EC requires all passenger cars and small delivery vans first type approved on or after 7 February 2011 in the EU to come equipped with daytime running lights. The mandate will extend to trucks and buses in August 2012. Functional piggybacking, such as operating the headlamps or front turn signals or fog lamps as DRLs, is not permitted; the EU Directive requires functionally specific daytime running lamps compliant with ECE Regulation 87 and mounted to the vehicle in accord with ECE Regulation 48. DRLs compliant with R87 emit white light of between 400 and 1200 candela.
The DRLs are expected to increase road safety as they substantially increase the car's visibility for other road users. The DRLs will be preferred to existing 'dipped-beam' head lights because of their lower energy requirements. According to the EU, the Daytime Running Lights need just 25% - 30%of the consumption of a standard driving light. When these DRLs are LEDs, or Light Emitting Diodes, the energy consumption is lowered by a further 10%.
We sell and install all type of LED DRLs according to the requirements of NCT, so you can be sure that you will be not only noticeable on the road, but your car will be also roadworthy.
